Getting Ready For A Dental Implant?

dental implant cost Henderson

Dental implants have become the tooth replacement option of choice among those who have lost one or more of their natural teeth. At Thompson and Frey Cosmetic and Family Dentistry in Owensboro, we offer single and multiple dental implants.

A dental implant is a metal post that is inserted into your jaw bone. They are usually made of titanium. Within a few months the post has fused with the bone: it has literally become part of you. It is meant to act as a replacement tooth root.

Strictly speaking, placing a dental implant in your jaw is surgery. It is relatively minor, though. In fact, most people are able to resume their normal activities the next day.

Implant Placement

The implant process is usually done in two phases, and the entire thing takes, on average, six to nine months.

The first phase is the actual placement. A local anesthesia or mild form of sedation is usually enough to keep you comfortable.

  • An incision is made in your gums to access the bone.
  • A special drill makes a space for the implant, like a guide hole.
  • The implant is screwed into place; a second, temporary part fits on top.
  • Your gums are closed.

As with any surgical procedure there is likely to be some discomfort afterward. We’ll prescribe any necessary medication for this.

The second phase comes after healing is complete. A permanent abutment is fitted to the titanium post, and finally, the articial tooth is attached to that.

Whether it is a single or multiple tooth replacement, dental implants from Thompson and Frey Cosmetic and Family Dentistry in Owensboro look and function like real teeth. We’ve placed them in patients from Henderson, Tell City IN, and Hartford, who also come to us for complete family dentistry. Call our office to schedule an appointment today!
